GENDER IS: A STUDENT FILM
GENDER IS is a short film written and co-produced by our Lead Media Technician, Veda Maharaj. Based on true events, and script input from over a dozen contributors, the story follows a young girl experiencing the wonders, and the trials of gender, and societal norms.

GENDER IS premiered at the Abby Theatre Fest in September 2022, followed by a screening presented by Fabulist Theatre at the Moberly Arts and Cultural Centre
on January 27, 2023.

‘Gender Is’ is a film about gender confusion. Gabriel, a girl in her early teens, is suddenly misgendered by a pair of teens. This gives her the inspiration to experiment and explore the concept of Gender with the support of her friend, who shows her the harmful impacts of a society with gender roles, and the thrill of breaking the norms.
